1960s British Greaves & Thomas Teak Sofa

1960s Greaves and Thomas Teak bentwood sofa. The sofa is formed from steam-bent solid Teak with curved sweeping armrests, a spindle back with turned, tapered, flared legs.  The seat and buttoned back cushion are upholstered in flame orange and gold fabric. The backrest can be removed and scatter cushions can be placed there instead which will expose the beautiful feature spindles.

Greaves & Thomas was a London based company which specialised in high-end contemporary furniture which included sideboards and armchairs. During the 1950s/60s they hired designers to create contemporary well-designed furniture. Walter Cornell designed for the company during this period. His designs featured clean lines and a Danish influence. In 1967, Greaves & Thomas was taken over by low-cost furniture maker Schreiber.
