This set of six modernist dinning chairs was created by Danish designer Kurt Østervig during the 1960s. The chairs were made of solid teak, with a visible structure and grain. This model represents the old school of craftsmanship. Noteworthy is the carved and contoured backrest, with a detail connecting the so-called swallows. Ergonomic design – contoured backrest and wide seat have been designed to be comfortable for any type of figure. The seat is upholstered with black vinyl adn the slender legs give the chairs lightness.
Kurt Østervig began his career as a naval architect in Odense, Denmark. Then, before he opened his own studio in 1947, Østervig worked for producer E. Knudsen. Until the end of his career, he worked as a freelance designer collaborating with many Danish furniture brands. Today, Østervig’s designs are still made by five manufacturers, but his Mid-Century Modern productions are the most popular, with high prices at auctions and international galleries.
This set of chairs is in very good vintage condition. Reupholstered. They have minor age-related marks. The seat is 45 cm high.
