Vintage Black Leather Bauhaus Cantilever Chair, 1960s, Set of 5
£1,995
Description
This set of five cantilever chairs was manufactured in Germany during the 1960s. These chairs are made of tubular steel and black natural leather. The cubic form, clear design, and subtle proportions allude to the design of the Bauhaus school, where the aim was to combine creative imagination, art and technology with practical knowledge and craftsmanship. The teachers and students of the Bauhaus used metal in the furniture making because in their opinion it perfectly met the criteria of modernity. Metal was a material that showed no style, it was an expression of function and structure. The form of the chairs refers to the design icon from the end of the 1920s by Marta Stam, who created the first-ever S33 cantilever chair. This set combines the spirit of the times with a sense of tradition and will work in many arrangements.
This set of chairs is in original vintage condition. They have minor age-related marks. The seat is 44 cm high.
