Description
“HE14 – Sandows” chair by Renè Herbst – Black edition
A pioneer in the use of simple industrial material for design furniture, Herbst continuously developed the theme of the chair with seat and back formed by elastic bands, the type used as a parcel holder. The first of several versions, it was presented at the Salon d’Automne des Artistes Décorateurs in Paris in 1929 together with a version used as a high stool. René Herbst founded the company Etablissements René Herbst to produce and market his designs. The version with high backrest and armrests follows the one without armrests, and appears in a photo of the showroom furnished by Robert Lallemant, ceramist and designer, in 1931. In 1937 a version was presented which kept the use of springs in the armrests, which instead were replaced by the cane woven into the seat and backrest. Dimensions: 81x42x42cm
