Vintage Modern Scandinavian Capri Armchair from Bra Bohag series by Alf Svensson,1950s
£1,675
Description
This Capri armchair from the Bohag Bra series was designed by Alf Svensson for the Swedish Dux, Ljungs Industrier manufacturer during the 1950s. The armchair was upholstered with a white Davis fabric obtained from recycled PET bottles. One running meter of fabric is made of 37 recycled PET bottles, and the entire production process is less harmful to the environment. The finishing of the fabric is based on nanoparticles, the composition of which is very effective in blocking the penetration of dirt. As a result, it is possible to remove the most difficult stains without the use of detergents. With the Easy Clean technology the stains can simply be removed with water or soapy water. Ketchup, coffee or even pen stains can easily be removed. The legs of the armchair are made of solid oak wood. The contoured backrest and high armrests make the armchair very comfortable. The light colour of the upholstery emphasizes the modernist form of this piece and makes it more modern.
Alf Svensson was a Swedish furniture manufacturer that was particularly active in the 1950s and 1970s. Like many of his Scandinavian colleagues, Svensson used traditional materials such as teak, rosewood and leather to create items that were typically designed in a Scandinavian modern style. Examples include the Contour Lounge chair and Te-Ve chair (1953) for Ljungs Industrier, Kongo Easy Chair (1954) for Hagi Fors, Domus 1 sectional chair (1955) for Dux, originally designed for the H55 exhibition in Helsingborg, Sweden, and a folding chair with a high back (1957) for Fritz Hansen. Svensson also designed tables for Tingstrƶms, lighting for Bergboms and storage solutions for BjƤst. Svensson’s designs for the Swedish furniture manufacturer Dux are perhaps the best known. In particular, his collection of lounge chairs – known as the Form Series – which was designed in the 1960s and 1970s.
Dux is a Swedish furniture manufacturer, a brand recognized all over the world. The company was founded in 1926 by Efraim Ljung.
