Rare Find: Very Large Signed Vintage Sphinx Cocktail Brooch In Superb Condition With Purple Pink Crystals And Safety Catch In Original Box

This is the most glorious vintage brooch by the renowned British costume jewellery company Sphinx. It is large, 2.25 inches/5.5cm diameter and heavy, a sign of good quality. Made of goldtone metal in imitation of gold, encrusted with marquise-shaped crystals/rhinestones of purple/red/blue aurora borealis iridesence around the edge, interspersed with magenta rose-cut crystals/rhinestones a a high-set purple/amethyst rose-cut crystal/rhinestone at the centre in a claw setting. The goldtone metal brooch is designed as three-dimensional acanthus leaves which beautifully set off the colours of the stones and the central amethyst coloured crystal sits proud on top, creating a wonderful, high, three-dimensional design.

This fabulous brooch is a really top quality piece by Sphinx in wonderful condition. It is incredibly glamorous and the large size will get you attention and compliments – looks especially wonderful worn on a purple dress or coat. The crystals really sparkle and the central stone has a lot of sparkle and internal fire, due to its wonderful cutting and setting. The goldtone is deep and lustrous and has the look of real gold. The detailing on the leaves and on the back of the brooch is superb. I bought this from its original owner – it was bought in the early 1960s in my local area and comes to you complete with its original gift box from Croydons of East Anglia, England. She kept it in its box all these years which has protected it and hence it is in such wonderful condition.

This is a fabulous piece and a great addition to any collection of vintage Sphinx jewellery, the quality British UK jewellery brand. Sphinx was started in the late 1940s by S Root and based in Chiswick, West London. They were known for their quality and original designs, producing a huge range and supplying the likes of Kenneth J Lane, Saks Fifth Avenue, Butler & Wilson, Neimans and Bloomingdales. Sphinx jewellery can be identified by the name in an oval cartouche often accompanied by a design code stamp of a letter and numbers. Sphinx stopped producing jewellery in the late 1990s and their items are increasingly collectable.

Condition: In superb, unworn, as new condition, in original box.
