£7,995
Description
This luxury round three-legged sofa table was designed by Josef Frank for Svenskt Tenn in 1948 and produced later in Sweden. It has model number 2139. This classic table features a burl top and walnut cabriole legs. The table features distinct classic elements such as the legs. The table is executed in all wood and the main feature is the richly patterned burl wood top. The table features three legs that support the table in a stable, functional manner.
A burl (or burr) is a tree growth in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner. It is commonly found in the form of a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk or branch that is filled with small knots from dormant buds. Burls yield a very peculiar and highly figured wood, prized for its beauty and rarity. It is sought after by furniture makers, artists, and wood sculptors. These are highly valued and sliced into veneers for furniture, luxury household objects, automobile interior panelling and trim, expensive musical instruments and woodturning.
This piece was numbered by the producer. Svenskt Tenn was founded in 1924 by Estrid Ericson, who recruited Josef Frank to the company 10 years later. Together they created the elegant and boldly patterned personal interior design style that continues to pervade the range to this day. The table is still in production and is one of the company’s icons.
