Flat Front Commode with Cherub Inlay
£650
Description
An attractive and nice quality chest of drawers or commode in the French Neoclassical style, with a flecked brownish red, black and white flecked marble top. It was made in Sweden and has the mark for the Swedish Furniture Industry Association on the back. With a lovely marquetry inlay and 3 drawers, the narrow one at the top is āhiddenā behind a floral frieze. Ornate ormolu style hardware and decoration is attached at various points and there is a charming motif of a cherub playing a flute depicted across the drawers. There are inlaid swags and flowers at the sides. The removable marble top is shaped to match the angled corners on the chest which run down to the cabriole legs.
There is plenty of storage space inside each of the good sized lower drawers, the bottom one being slightly deeper, and the narrower āhiddenā drawer is ideal for all those bits and pieces which need to be put away.
Dating to the 20th century, this is made of mixed wood and marble and originates from Sweden.
In good vintage condition, without any chips to the marble. There is a very small, shallow chip to the wood below the cherub and some very light scuffing overall, but nothing obtrusive.
Height ā 84 cm
Width ā 96 cm
