Large Edwardian Display Cabinet or Vitrine
£1,250
Description
A lovely large English glazed cabinet or vitrine, this is a great piece for both display and storage, with a cupboard at the bottom. It is glazed at the sides and has two removable plate glass shelves, with a mirror base in the cabinet area and shaped mirrored panels at the bottom of the doors. A beautiful feature are the ball and claw feet on which it stands, the design of these said to date back to Chinese mythology where a dragon guards a jewel representing wisdom or purity. This is a good sized display cabinet for any home with a traditional interior.
Dating to circa 1910, this is made of mahogany and glass, and originates from England.
In good age related condition, this has a key and the lock bolt is working, but the strike is slightly misaligned and the door is actually held in place with a magnetic catch at the top. There is a small fracture chip out of one of the plate glass shelves, but this is smooth and not obtrusive at the back of the shelf. It has the slight wear and discolourations expected for a piece of this age, including some minor splits to the inside of the cabinet āceilingā, but has been finished and polished ready for the home.
