19th Century Austrian Painted Bird Cupboard Dated 1831
£1,470
Description
A characterful and attractive 19th century Austrian painted cabinet, this has the date of 1831 painted above the door and is decorated with pretty stylised floral patterns in painted panels, with a bird in a tree on the door. The main colour is green, with mustard yellow panels on the sides to match that behind the bird. There are four sets of side brackets internally to support the shelves, which are removable. The piece sits on bracket feet. This is a lovely cupboard for any room and will provide great storage.
Dating to circa 1831, this is made of wood and originates from Austria.
In sturdy condition, this does have some noticeable damage from old woodworm, particularly in the back panels, with damage also visible on the cornice. The shelves have been cut to shape in places. The key is available and the lock will turn, but it does not engage properly and a magnetic fixing has been attached. Otherwise, this continues to be a serviceable storage piece.
