Antique Black Painted Oak Chest Of Drawers With Wooden Top
Ā£295
Description
This is an attractive antique chest that dates to the late 19th century.
Made of oak and mixed woods the chest is well made, solid and heavy and began its life as a dressing chest.
The front is fitted with four drawers, two small over two wide, which are all finished with ornate drop handles set on decorative back plates which are nicely aged.
The drawer interiors are in fairly clean condition and the drawers run out quite well, the bottom two are a little creaky when pushed back in.
I have hand painted the base in my own mix of water based black paint before lightly distressing the finish for a gently aged look. The paintwork is solid colour and has been darkly waxed for protection, the finish is smooth with a nice aged looking sheen.
The top of the chest has been stripped back to the natural wood and Danish oiled for protection.
CONDITION
The chest is generally in good structural condition with various cosmetic marks of age and use. The top has various marks and scratches and filled dowel holes where the mirrored top once sat. There are some small holes to one side panel and the base plinth has a small shrinkage crack, as shown.
The bottom left handle backplate is a little damaged and the drop has been fixed on with a bolt through the back of the drawer front.
