Vintage Fox & Hounds Tea Set by Paramount Pottery Co circa 1940, all three pieces marked PPC England to the base. All items are in excellent vintage condition, with no cracks, chips, repairs. The three display really well together. Tea pot, sugar bowl and milk jug with hunting scene to the front, saddle &crop to the back. The pot and jug both have a foxโ€™s head for spouts, with the tail as part of the handle. They lid of the pot has a riding hat and 2 foxes with crops.
Paramount Pottery Co. were established in Hanley in 1946 by Charles Griffith Bowers, and went into making item like the one (known as “cottage ware”). They were quickly acquired by a larger company called Keele Street Pottery, who had been founded in 1915 by a group of 4 dynamic and well known Staffordshire ceramics experts. Between 1947 and 1949 they bought Paramount, Winterton Pottery, Thomas Cone, Alma Works, Collingwood Bone China, Conway Pottery, Piccadilly Pottery, and Lawton Pottery. This firm carried on growing through the post war period and in 1950 they changed their name to “Staffordshire Potteries Ltd”. Priced for the set.
