Vintage Italian Fish Aquarium By Glass Studio Murano, 1980s
£1,450
Description
An incredibly detailed handblown Murano glass aquarium with three striped fish with orange tails and fins. The multicoloured shells and coral sit at the bottom of the aquarium and shimmer from the silver and gold inclusions. Air bubbles float to the surface through the blue seaweed and red anemone. The vertical rectangular glass aquarium is supported around the base by cobalt blue waves lapping around it. Designed in the late 1970s/early eighties and signed on the base – Glass Studio Murano. The original “MADE IN ITALY – Murano” red and gold circular foil label is also visible.
This is a beautiful example of the Sommerso technique which involves layering different colours of glass on top of each other and then fusing them together. This creates a depth of 3-dimensional colour.
In very good condition with no chips or cracks. One or two scratches to the base.
A beautiful decorative piece suitable for windowsills, sideboards and glass shelving especially if they’re illuminated or where natural light shines through.
