Description
An impressive large handblown egg-shaped aquarium paperweight made in Murano, Italy circa 1980s. This beautiful and unique paperweight is attributed to Barbini and manufactured by Cenedese. Made with the “sommerso” technique it depicts an aquarium with two separate shoals of five fish with rising air bubbles and seaweed floating upwards. The cobalt blue seabed is covered in sparkling silver and green glass surrounded by pieces of circular glass depicting coral. The fine detail and colour make the piece quite mesmerising especially with the light shining through it. The sculpture is in good condition with no chips or scratches to its polished body. The base is quite scratched but they’re not visible when the paperweight is stood upright and in place. The foil “Murano ARTWARE” is visible on the body clarifying its provenance.
Perfect to display on a glass shelving unit, coffee table or on a desk as a paperweight.
