Description
This glass vase from the Contour series was designed by Vicke Lindstrand for the Swedish glassworks Kosta Glasbruk during the 1950s. It is made of high quality clear crystal glass with a dark brown line inside the vase. The catalogue number us LH 1237.
Victor Emanuel Lindstrand, known as Vicke Lindstrand, was born on November 27, 1904 in Gothenburg and died on May 7, 1983 in Kosta. He was a Swedish glass, textile and ceramics designer and painter. He is considered a pioneer of Swedish glass art. His works participated in art competitions at the 1932 and 1936 Summer Olympics. In 1950 he joined Kosta Glasbruk as art director. He was the dominant designer there, giving his name to many of todayās classic designs. He introduced a whole range of colors to his creations, which resulted in iconic designs. Together with the sculptor Edvin Ćhrstrƶm, he developed the new Ariel technique.
Kosta Glasbruk, later known as Kosta Boda, is a Swedish glass company founded by two army officers of Charles XII, Anders Koskull and Stage Bogislaus von Holstein in 1742. The name is a combination of the namess of the founders: Ko + Sta. Its base are in Kosta, Sweden, a town named after the company. The surrounding region became known as the Crystal Kingdom and is now a tourist destination that attracts one million tourists every year.
