Description
This transparent vase was designed by Sven Palmquist for the Swedish glassworks Orrefors during the 1950s. The vase is made of art glass.
Sven Palmquist was born in 1906 in Lenhovda, Sweden. He is best known for his cooperation with the Orrefors glassworks, for which he created a series of Fuga bowls. Palmqvist practiced engraver at Orrefors. He graduated in 1931 with a major in engraving, then studied in Stockholm at Konstfack (University College of Arts, Crafts and Design) and the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. Palmqvistās illustrious career with Orrefors spanned over four decades. The versatile designer has also created glass sculptures that can be seen in churches, the entrance to SVT in Stockholm, and offices in Dubai. Palmqvistās designs are housed in the seasonal Orrefors Museum, which opened on the site of a former factory. He was remembered as a significant founder of Scandinavian glass design in the 20th century.
The Swedish glassworks Orrefors takes its name from the forested village of SmĆ„land where it was founded. In the 20th century, the name Orrefors became synonymous with perfect Swedish glass. Orreforsā reputation spread around the world in the mid-1920s; first as a result of Orreforsā presentation at the Gothenburg exhibition in 1923, and then through participation in the groundbreaking exhibition Exposition Internationale des Arts DĆ©coratifs in Paris in 1925, where Orrefors and the artists themselves received the Grand Prix. The company grew and expanded its product lines. Currently, the company operates as Orrefors Kosta Boda AB and is the largest group of glassworks in Scandinavia. It develops, produces and distributes a wide range of utility and artistic glassware for private and public use.
This vase is in original vintage condition.
