Description
This pair of superb Japanese stem vases date to the mid / late19th century, the Edo or Meiji period when beautiful and intricate art work was being exported to meet the appetite of the west. This pair of vases are of quality Bronze and feature highly detailed Dragons each holding a pearl or jewel.
Items may possibly be from the workshops of master craftsman, Genryusai Seiya, his workshops specialising in export wares of the highest quality.
The height of each piece is 8.25 inches, (21cm).
Weight Ā of each is 980g.
Condition, undamaged, patination with minor fade.

In art and Japanese mythology Ryujin is a sea god and is typically portrayed as a sea dwelling dragon or giant serpent. When depicted holding the magic round jewel as in this case, this is thought to represent power and monarchy and with which the god can control the tides.
