Description
This is a large decorative wooden rice bucket from China. It dates to approximately the first quarter of the 20th century and is made of red lacquered wood.
The top is fitted with a removable lid and rope carrying handles.
The red lacquer symbolizes good luck and great fortune.
The front has some Chinese symbols and the base is signed.
The basket is in good condition with various marks of age and use.
There is a crack in the lacquer, as shown.
This piece came from the Marley House Estate in Exmouth.
