Description
A vintage Smiths wood and aluminium mantel clock from the early 1970s.
A very rare, elegant, modern clock in almost unmarked condition.
This is the Smiths āRhombusā model, from the time when Smiths produced very stylish clocks rather than the more traditional clocks they are known for, these modernist clocks are very hard to come by.
I donāt like to use the word rare, but this is only the second of these I have seen in the last two years.
Wooden surround with aluminium foot and aluminium trim top and bottom. the aluminium is
free of pitting.
In lovely condition the glass unmarked the wood and aluminium free of any scratches.
This was fitted with a mains movement which I have replaced with a new, very quiet, German made quartz movement, this makes it much more usable with no cables trailing down the wall, It keeps perfect time. It will run for well over 12 months with one AA battery.
The original hands have been modified to suit the new movement, including the second hand, it is a little time consuming, but worth the effort, there is nothing worse than a clock with hands that do not match the original design of the clock.
150mm wide x 200mm high x 60mm deep ( 6ā³ x 8ā³ x 1 1/2ā³)
The clocks I sell are all vintage and some will have some age related wear. I will try to bring attention to any flaws in this description.
Clocks are fully tested and are kept running up to dispatch to ensure correct time keeping.

Klokhuis Clocks
Stylish mid century clocks repurposed for todayās world.
I am a clockmaker/restorer, I have been in the business for 40 years.
All my clocks are stripped down, cleaned and repaired and serviced where necessary, new, high quality quartz movements are fitted, this does away with the need for the clock to have cables trailing down walls or across shelves or mantelpieces, unreliable clockwork movements are also replaced.
The original hands will be modified to suit the new movement, it is a little time consuming, but worth the effort, a clock with hands that do not match the original design of the clock just doesnāt look right.
My eye for detail results in a great looking original clock, flexible in location and ready to fit in in with contemporary and MCM decors.
Packaging: The packaging I use is either recyclable, reusable or compostable, the bubble wrap can be reused, I donāt buy bubblewrap but reuse what is sent to me, you can do the same, the cardboard box will recycle.
I donāt over restore, clocks are cleaned, I have developed techniques for making the metal work look as new as possible, all by hand, this is not done by machine polishing which, being harsh, will round off the clean sharp edges, the clocks just donāt look right when they are overworked, they were never like that when new!, the end result with my clocks, in my opinion, is a great looking clock in lovely original condition.
