Description
A fine Chinese Kangxi period blue and white lidded ginger jar depicting an emperor or noble man mounted on a Qilin or mythical beast and being escorted by his entourage. The lid depicting Bats in flight.
Having been closely inspected in day light and with black light, all is in vey good order with no damage.
The vase has the occasional pitting from the firing process and exhibits two blue circles to the base and lid.
The carved wooden base is included in the lot, however this is of a much more recent date.
Weight 850 g.
Stand 80 g.
Height without stand 21 cm.
Hight with stand 25 cm.
Note of interest. The Qilin is a mythical beast, in Chinese folklore being the harbinger of a change of rule, perhaps the death of an emperor or rise of another.
