Description
A wonderfully decorative piece of English social history, this needlework sampler was completed by Jane Hardy in April of 1837, just within the end of the reign of William IV.
– Attractive square shape and size, and glazed in the original frame.
– Completed at ‘Langton’ and worked with a poem entitled ‘Comparison’ featuring a graceful maid.
– Worked with birds, trees, apples, flowers and a pair of animals which might be hares or rabbits, with a large fruit basket at the top.
In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There is some very minor damage to the lower corners of the sampler, but this is unobtrusive. The frame is original.
