Description
This is a great find – a naive folk art verre Ć©glomisĆ© (reverse glass painting) icon-like framed glass painting of St. George slaying the Dragon. These typically originate from Russia or Georgia, although not exclusively. I think this is likely Georgian. They are also a little hard to date as the style does not change that much so this could be anywhere from C19th to C20th. Beautiful rich, saturated colours of red, green, gold with the horse in a creamy white and the armour in a blue-grey. Written in Cyrillic ‘St. George’. Absolutely charming work of naive folk art. In a wooden frame and with hanging string and a hanging loop top back. I would be temped to paint the frame a soft gold to complement the picture but I will leave that up to the purchaser. Condition: Very good – no problems at all. Postage: I always pack everything extremely well to ensure safety in transit. Postage to the UK is free and includes proof of posting and a tracking number. I always send a photograph of the postage label to the customer on despatch. If you wish these posted overseas please contact me first for a price.
