Description
A great find – a rare antique Chinese block colour print on rice paper of a couple in Westernised dress beside a motor car. Dating from c. 1910/20. Presumably this is showing an affluent couple of the time who can afford to import a fancy Western car and dress in fancy Western clothes. The man is also smoking a Western style cigarette which would have been a new thing at the time. I’m afraid I am not able to translate the Chinese characters on the print so cannot tell you what it is says. Strong saturated block colours of a dark red, green with mauve and blue-grey printed in strong black lines on a light golden coloured rice paper. The print is well mounted but framed in a nasty cheap modern frame which you will want to replace for something better but I will keep it in there for protection in the post. Condition: Very good antique condition with nothing to worry about. No fading. One small hole in the man’s left arm but it blends in so you really don’t see it. A few minor surface abrasions through age but they blend in with the patchy nature of the block printing method so that you don’t really notice them. Please look through all the photographs. Postage: I always pack everything extremely well to ensure safety in transit. Postage to the UK is free and includes proof of posting and a tracking number. I always send a photograph of the postage label to the customer on despatch. If you wish these posted overseas please contact me first for a price.
